Episode 2: Tobin Ellis on Good Design
Tobin is the owner of BarMagic of Las Vegas, an award-winning hospitality design & consulting firm established in 1997 that specializes in concept development, bar design, and hospitality operations.
BarMagic’s client portfolio includes MGM-Mirage, Marriott-Ritz Carlton, Hilton Hotels, Ace Hotels, Starbucks Coffee Company, Gaylord Hotels, CSX Hotels, EDITION Hotels and more. Tobin has designed bars from Hawaii to New York, Las Vegas to Johannesburg.
Called “a shot of adrenaline” by the New York Times, Tobin’s bartending and consulting career spans 28 years and includes 6 national bartending titles as well as appearances on Throwdown with Bobby Flay, Spike TV’s Bar Rescue, and the Food Network Challenge.
In 2014, his company’s design work was second runner-up nationally in the PIPP Design Awards for commercial interior design and decor. The following year his line of beverage dispensing equipment the “Tobin Ellis Cocktail Station” by Perlick was a Gold Winner in the 2015 GOOD DESIGN Awards selected by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies. The station was also nominated as a finalist in the 2016 FCSI Innovation Showcase Awards for Foodservice Product of the Year.
BarMagic’s work has helped win a slew of accredited awards including Best Hotel Bar in Las Vegas (2005), Best Lounge in Las Vegas (2005), Best Cocktails (2005, 2007, 2009, 2010), Best Hotel Opening (hotelchatter.com, 2011).
